Two-Cent Tuesday on Figueiredo vs. Moreno 4, slap fighting, Mousasi's next fight, Masvidal-Covington, more
Hello there. Hope you’re doing well on this lovely Tuesday.
Here are a few random thoughts and nuggets from around the world of mixed martial arts …
Roberto Soldić, the current KSW middleweight and welterweight champion, met with UFC officials this weekend in London. I’m told the meeting was a positive one and there is confidence he can sign with the promotion in the coming days. KSW would like to keep him, I’m told, and are going to try to, but UFC is going to make a play. If he signs with the UFC, he could be a player. Very talented fighter.
Bellator bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis tore his ACL and will be out of the upcoming Bellator Grand Prix. CBS Sports first reported the news. As a result, the promotion will now be instituting an interim title.
So Pettis’ original opponent, Raufeon Stots, will now fight Juan Archuleta for the interim belt on April 23. That belt will be defended throughout the tournament, and then the winner of the GP will fight Pettis to unify the belts.
Tough blow for Pettis and the tournament considering it hasn’t started yet and he is coming off that thrilling KO of Kyoji Horiguchi in December.
Bellator is going to book Gegard Mousasi vs. Johnny Eblen next for the Bellator middleweight title, I’m told. Eblen is 11-0 and 7-0 in Bellator. He is known as he “Human Cheat Code.” Plan is for June.
UFC has decided to go with Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno 4 for the UFC flyweight title next, sources say. The hope is to do it in July.
