Hello again.
Some random thoughts, news, notes and nugz for ya on this last Tuesday in April 2022 …
I just got back from New York City where I filmed a face-to-face with Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. I’ve met Amanda before, but that was the first time I’ve ever met Katie in person, so it was quite exciting. As you can imagine, the dynamic between the two ladies was different than, say, Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley last year, but this was really fun, and I enjoyed the challenge. I believe it’s coming out tomorrow.
Very thankful that DAZN are letting me do these for them this week. I’ve never worked with DAZN before and so far everyone has been lovely.
Speaking of Paul, I’ll be doing a face-to-face with Paul and Eddie Hearn on Thursday. Can’t wait for that, especially after Hearn’s comments about Paul during the HBO Real Sports segment on Paul, which aired last week.
Been a while since I covered a fight at MSG. Been a while since I’ve been so excited for an event, to be honest. Can’t wait for Saturday night. This feels special not only because it’s the first time in the 143-year history of MSG that two women headline a boxing card but because it’s legit No. 1 vs. No. 2 on the pound-for-pound list. It’s been 14 years since that happened in boxing (Pacquaio vs. Marquez 2, but only because Floyd Mayweather temporarily retired) and it’s supremely rare in MMA (DC vs. Jones 2 is one of the few times it’s happened). So this is big-time stuff.
Love the fact that Taylor vs. Serrano, Shakur Stevenson vs. Oscar Valdez and Marlon Vera vs. Rob Font will not coincide with one another either. Vera-Font will end by the time Taylor-Serrano starts and Stevenson-Valdez will kick off long after the women’s main event is over. Beautiful. We are spoiled these days.
Marlon Vera and Katie Taylor are currently betting underdogs. FYI.
The 3PAC crew will be having an informal get together on Friday night here, so if you’re in NYC, swing on by. We’ll also be recording our first in-person Ringer MMA show on Thursday and Saturday after Taylor-Serrano at MSG. Good fun.
135 is 100% the best weight in combat sports right now. It’s arguably the most competitive division in the UFC and Bellator, and it’s definitely the most interesting weight class in men’s and women’s boxing. Kinda wild when you think about it.
