Hello there.
Here are some news/thoughts/notes and nugz on a Tuesday afternoon for ya …
Open scoring.
If you ask me, that was a really costly loss for Holly Holm on Saturday night. Deserved or not, it was the second-to-last fight on her deal, and she is one of the higher-paid female fighters on the UFC roster. She’s made no secret of the fact that she wants/wanted one more run at the UFC 135-pound belt, but I can’t see her getting a shot any time soon after that loss. I wouldn’t be surprised if the UFC gives her that last fight later this year and then wishes her well in her future endeavors. Or, at the very least, offers her a massive pay cut.
Now, there is the big Katie Taylor fight out there for her, which if i’m being honest, interests me a hell of a lot more than her fighting Julianna Peña or Amanda Nunes, and I don’t think the loss necessarily hurts the chances of that fight happening, but it does slow her momentum a tad. Still, I’d love to see it … after the Serrano rematch, of course.
There’s been some talk in the Irish media that they may do Taylor-Holm right away, to which I call BS on two fronts: 1) Holm still has one more fight, though I guess they could release her or co-promote and 2) it feels like just a negotiating ploy in the midst of the Taylor-Serrano 2 talks.
It would seem very short-sighted and silly if they didn’t make Taylor-Serrano 2 right away. Almost as silly as it was to not make Holm-Rousey 2 right away back in 2016. Don’t make the same mistake, Eddie!
