Dear Ariel,

Don Tony here.

I’m wondering what did you make of Stan the Mans’ questions/approach to Dana at the post fight presser last weekend?

Also, when he referenced you to Dana I was anticipating that Dana may bring forth some unwarranted name calling…his usual go to’s of ‘scumbag’, ‘goofball’ etc.

However, to my surprise…though you could see a few veins bulge in his forehead…he refrained from name calling.

It got Don Tony thinking…ever since the Highroad Helwani era ended and the Heelwani era began…Dana to the best of my knowledge hasn’t thrashed you in public.

Have you found since this new glorious era that people don’t mess with the king anymore?

All the best,

Don Money

Good day Ariel,

Two quick ones

1. What’s next for Dustin Poirier? I think I speak for the entire MMA community when I say I’d love to see him win an undisputed title in his career but i wonder if they will immediately book him against the winner of Volk vs Islam due to his performance in previous title fight. How would you book Dustin’s next fight or two?

2. At this point Roman Reigns has been built up to be unbeatable. Who do you think in the current WWE roster would make sense as a formidable foe for the head of the table? Brock vs Roman has been beaten to death and I would like to see some new angles for the big ppvs

You’re the man!

I love Poirier too but I think together with Gaethje and Chandler he is part of the generation on the way out (not even mentioning Edie Alvarez) and a step behind the real elite in the division. I would like to see him mix it up with the new upcomersand beat Dariush, Gamrot or even Tsarukyan before being considered for another title fight

What is up Ariel. What a weekend, and easily my favorite night of fights this year. One thing that sparked my interest after the fights was Eddie Alvarez tweeting at Michael Chandler and the UFC, suggesting that he wants to finish the trilogy with Chandler. Dana seemed to dismiss the idea of bringing in Eddie, but I think it would be a great idea for the UFC to invest in 3-4 Eddie fights. What do you think of the idea of bringing him back in and how much of a chance do you give it of actually happening?

Ariel, a few quick ones for you:

•Will we get to see Frankie Edgar on now that the in ring career is over?

•Any updates on the Diaz bros? Will we see a Nick in-ring return?? Is there a chance Nate Diaz ends up getting a deal he can't refuse from the UFC and re-signs???

Finally, a question I've been trying to get an answer to for a while, do you know what the ppv buys for ufc 279 was? If not with who or where these numbers can be found?

Hey there Ariel,

I fell in love with MMA in April when TKZ fought Volkanovski. Though I was pulling for TKZ that night secured me as a fan, and I've watched every single UFC fight live since that card. Pretty quickly after becoming an MMA addict, I found your show here, and I've been a loyal listener ever since.

I am so excited; I have secured tickets to Bellator 288 and am excited to go to my first in-person MMA ever! My question may be silly to those who have been following the scene for a while but do you think Chicago will ever get to host another UFC event anytime soon? And how does the UFC pick which cities to return to? Will it help our cause if Belal challenges for the belt?

Thanks for everything you do for the space. You're a huge part of why I've fallen in love with the sport.

- Ben

Hello Ariel!

After the Poirier-Chandler fight, I saw Dustin shared an Instagram story from Thiago Alves which showed Dustin’s hands being wrapped in the locker room before the fight. There was no tape or padding over Dustin’s knuckles, and Alves’ caption said Dustin was going “bare knuckle” for the fight. I’ve never seen this before, as fighters usually have some padding over their knuckles under their gloves. Is this common in MMA, or something that Dustin decided to do specifically for this fight so he could inflict more damage on Chandler? I think Dustin showing up in the Marvin Hagler WAR hat was an indicator his violent intentions. Perhaps you can ask him during todays interview.

Hello Moderator Louis! This is the 2nd question I’ve asked this week and if I’m lucky enough for you to you choose one, I’d prefer it to be this one!

Hey ariel and crew. Hope you guys can help me in this situation. Last Monday was my birthday, and I started it off right with the ckb takeover show, and the birthday wishes came piling in, yet as the day went by no response of my bestfriend. I held back from reposting stories on social media for the reason of that he's gonna see it and remind him of that. The day ended no response, a day after went to dinner with my GF and reposted her story and he saw and wished me a belated happy birthday. This isn't the first time he forgets my bday, we're supposedly "boys" been there for each other through thick and thin, seen each other at our worst, bestfriends since the 8th grade. For other people he would remember yet he forgets about his "boy" that's what hurts. I have yet to speak to him and reply to his belated bday message. What should I say? I'm a being exaggerated too petty? Let me know (sorry for the long response, hope moderator Louis doesn't get mad at me)

Hey Ariel and crew, long time fan - first time question asker.

Well, two questions.

1 - When you start the show do you say "theeeeeee" or "naaaaaaaa"? It's definitely not "the"!

2 - I am a bit late on this as it's well into no shave November. But, we've seen New York Rick cut his hair...what...twice now? What do us fans have to do to get you to grow out your hair? Can we get a month? Two months? What if we donated to a good cause for it? Come on do it! The fans (me) have spoken. Let's get an Ariel Hairwani up in here.

Could you see Figgy-Moreno being the January main event? Or will the UFC try to book a bigger fight?

Expand full comment

I've been wanting to know this as well. I feel like it being the fourth should make it the main event, but Dana didn't commit to it in the press conference, and espn has it in the Co-main slot as of right now, hopefully this is picked so Ariel can give the scoop.

Shalom Ariel,

UFC 283 is currently missing the following big name Brazilian fighters Charles Olivera, Gilbert Burns, Amanda Nunes and maybe even Alex Pereira. Any news? Any chance they are still going to be put on the card at this point?

Hey Ariel,

On the Spotify live show you guys were talking about potentially a backup for the fight given the weigh in drama, but given Izzy has mostly cleared out the division who would that have even been? Or in the case that Izzy would have won, what was next for the division? Khamzat? In the past when a fighter like JJ, GSP, or Anderson cleared out a division what would usually happen. Would love to hear you and the guys opinions. Shoutout to Frank.

Thanks!

Shout out to the MHC (MMA Hour Crew), thank you for what you do.

Question (for GC or anyone) - I am a big fan of Michael Chandler but watching him fight is like being on a Roller Coaster of emotions. The back and forth is absolutely amazing and terrifying at the same time. So my question is, Is it better for my health to avoid betting on Michael Chandler fights? Is he not one of the most wreckless, for better or worse, fighters in recent memory/to bet on?

Hello MMA Hour Family! I jumped on the bandwagon a couple months back and can’t thank you all enough for the insightful, entertaining, and all around stellar combat sports content.

Now to the question. It isn’t uncommon to hear “McGregor is the money fight” or “Masvidal is the money fight”, but I have also heard Dana say multiple times that a fighter has a contract and will fight for their contracted price. Is it as simple as when someone gets a big fight against Connor or Jorge that they will renegotiate their contract and get a bigger payday, or are people referring to the stardom and opportunities that will come as a result of fighting and/or beating these big name stars? I understand you have to be a big name to be in the conversation for these “money fights”, but I find it hard to believe sometimes that Dana will just willingly renegotiate.

Thank you all again!

I dont really think anyone would say masvidal is a money fight outside of his first usman fight, to be honest.

Hi Ariel,

Being a San Francisco resident, I've been curious about why San Francisco has never hosted a UFC event. And not only have we never hosted an event, but SF never even seems to be in the discussion. Is there any reason for this? The Warriors' (relatively) new Chase Center would be the perfect venue.

Thanks

Hey Ariel, Happy National Check Your Wipers Day.

Throughout your years of covering the sports world, who has left the best impression on you be it a fighter, wrestler, athlete, or manager, if you can narrow it down to one individual the follow up would be why them?
