One of the biggest grudge matches in recent UFC history is about to finally come to fruition.

Per sources, both Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal have agreed to meet on Dec. 11 in Las Vegas. The fight will take place on the UFC 269 main card.

The fight is almost three years in the making dating back to when the duo got into a skirmish backstage at an event in London in March 2019.

Since then they have engaged in a war of words but never competed against each other.

That will change in two months.

As a result, look for the Brandon Moreno x Deiveson Figueiredo 3 fight to get moved to UFC 270 on Jan. 22.

UFC 269 would feature Charles Oliveira x Dustin Poirier for the lightweight title, Amanda Nunes x Julianna Peña for the women’s bantamweight title and Edwards x Masvidal.

UFC 270 would then have Francis Ngannou x Ciryl Gane for the undisputed heavyweight title and Brandon Moreno x Deiveson Figueiredo for the flyweight title, plus Derek Brunson x Jared Cannonier, among others. Good stuff.

The front-runner to host UFC 270 at the moment is Anaheim or Las Vegas. If it’s Anaheim, it would mark the first UFC event in California since UFC 241 in August 2019.

Where does this leave Burns? The winner of this fight likely jumps him in the rankings. He has the over Thompson, but the division is too top heavy at the moment for that win to earn him another title shot. Luque and Burns are close friends so that’s probably off the table, and Nate Diaz is interested in fighting Luque. Chiesa is booked against Brady. Magny and Belal all the way down the rankings at 8 and 9 just doesn’t have any juice in my opinion. I think the biggest fight for Gilbert is if Khamzat Chimaev is able to make quick or dominant work over Li, we could see him slingshot up the rankings. Burns vs. Chimaev early next year?
