Two-Cent Tuesday on why I like interim titles, flyweights, lightweights, upcoming fights, more
Hello there.
Hope you’re doing well, wherever you may be. Here are some news, notes and nugz on this lovely Tuesday in May …
ICYMI, late last night, I reported that Brandon Moreno will fight Kai Kara-France for the interim flyweight title on July 30. A few thoughts on that …
I actually don’t mind the interim titles anymore. Does it water down the belts? Sure. But I like the fact that it allows the fighters to reap the benefits of being a UFC champion. In other words, they get paid as champs, can earn PPV points etc. And so with that in mind, I’m all for it.
It’s kinda like why I want more organizations and a more fragmented sport. Screw the best fighting the best fairy tale, give me the fighters making as much as possible, I say.
Kara-France signed a new deal as a result of this fight coming together, I’m told. You’ll recall he told me not that long ago that he was approaching the end of his deal.
The original plan was Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno 4 on that date, however, according to Figueiredo’s team his finger his still badly hurt. He is hoping he can return in October, they said.
Here’s a picture of how Figueiredo’s finger currently looks, courtesy of his team:
Good news is, he won’t need surgery, they say.
